The Durango R/T comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and Fuel Saver Technology that includes the Multiple Displacement System (MDS) and dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT). MDS automatically deactivates four cylinders when eight are not needed, like cruising at highway speeds, or under light load.

VVT allows the engine to recycle combustion energy and transfer it, rather than rejecting it as heat. It improves engine breathing, which subsequently improves efficiency and power.
