Pastrana Reaches New HEIGHTS in the Dodge Dart Rallycross Race Car at Texas Motor Speedway Dallas, TX.

(Saturday, June 2, 2012) Travis Pastrana won't soon forget his most recent visit to the Lone Star State. The site of the second Rallycross event of the season for the series, Pastrana and the Pastrana 199 Racing team had great expectations for the weekend and Saturday afternoon's event. So much so, the team had not one, but two Dodge Darts entered in the event with Felipe Albuquerque driving the second Dart.

No question, the Dodge Darts were fast. The issue however was one of the jumps, a 60-foot cross over jump. Troubles started early in Friday morning's practice session when a very eager Pastrana in the No. 199 Dodge Dart received significant front-end damage after over-shooting the gap-jump. The No. 199 crew worked late into the night to repair the damage.

Miraculously, Pastrana's team was able to repair the damage and get ready for competition on Saturday afternoon. Pastrana finished third, just missing a transfer position to the feature which forced him in the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ).

"We just missed it a bit in the heat race and when you have to run in the LCQ, you almost have to be perfect," said Pastrana. "The key was to get the start that we needed against Ken (Block) and I got the jump on him heading into the first turn. That put us in great position until I overdrove the hairpin and looped the car. It's so hard to pass here and I just wasn't able to run the three laps I needed in the LCQ. Our Red Bull/Discount Tire Dodge was fast all weekend."

It was a similar story for Albuquerque. In his LCQ, the No. 99 Dodge got off to a promising start but had to pull off the track for safety reasons as the car ahead of him driven by Bucky Lasek jumped off the side of the cross over jump. Albuquerque finished fourth.

"I lost the clutch completely in the LCQ and that ended the day for me," said Albuquerque. "I think that's why I had such a poor start. I was so keen to get a great start and when I got off the rev limiter, there was no wheel spin. The car wasn't going like it should. I was stuck in second gear the entire time, but when I started to accelerate toward the big jump I wasn't carrying enough speed and just had to pull off. It's a shame. Our Dodge Dart was really fast."

While the results in the first two Rallycross events isn't what Pastrana and his team had expected, there's no question in anyone's mind about the speed and performance of the Dodge Dart racecar. "These Dodge Darts are fast," said team manager Blair Stopnik. "We set fast lap times. We know that they work. But they're also brand new and we've got some teething issues. Travis is a hell of a driver. Felipe was great all weekend. It's a new car. It's a new series. We're just learning event by event. The cars are certainly faster than our results have shown."

Watch Travis Pastrana make another go at it in his Dodge Dart Rallycross car on July 1 at this Summer's XGames in Los Angeles. Live broadcast on ESPN at 6:30 PM EST.

Dodge Enters Global RallyCross with All-New Dodge Dart and Travis Pastrana

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (Monday, March 26, 2012) - Dodge and SRT Motorsports announced today an all-new 2013 Dodge Dart rally car piloted by four-time Rally America Champion and 17-time X Games Gold Medalist Travis Pastrana will compete in the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship (GRC) Series.

"At Dodge, racing is an integral part of our heritage and embodies our competitive spirit, so we're very excited to announce the next chapter in racing for Dodge with our all-new Dodge Dart," said Reid Bigland, President and CEO-Dodge Brand. "The new Dart Global RallyCross Championship car with 600 horsepower and driver Travis Pastrana takes our passion for performance to all new heights."

Pastrana, 28, is a four-time Rally America champion and owner of multiple supercross and motorcross championships. He also owns Nitro Circus, an empire that includes a television show, live tours and 3D feature film project. Pastrana is one of the most searched athletes in the world (6 million Google searches in 2010) and he has more than 3.5 million Facebook followers.

"When I first heard about GRC, I was really interested, and after watching some of the rounds last year and then actually competing at X Games I was hooked!" said Pastrana. "Now to be able to partner with Dodge to field my own program this year is a dream come true. The new Dodge Dart offers the perfect platform for rally cross, and I look forward to putting it on the podium all season long!"

Ralph Gilles, President and CEO - Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC, said that having Pastrana piloting a Dodge Dart and competing in GRC is a natural fit.

"Travis is a living example of what action sports activities are all about, so he fits in perfectly with the youthfulness and passion for performance of the Dodge brand and the SRT Motorsports team," said Gilles. "He's proven that he can handle just about anything with wheels, so it's going to be great to watch him pilot our new Dodge Dart in Global RallyCross."

The Dart rally car is custom built specifically for Global RallyCross racing, but shares a few traits with the production Dodge Dart. Both vehicles have exceptional aerodynamics, are agile and fun to drive and will add a little excitement to their segments. Powered by a purpose-built 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve turbo-charged 600-horsepower engine mated to a Sedav 4-wheel drive gear box that puts out more than 550 lb.-ft. of torque, the Dart rally car is ready to go.

The 2013 production Dodge Dart features three state-of-the-art powertrains that produce up to 184 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque and a sporty, fun-to-drive experience. The Dart features an athletic, sporty exterior, a world-class interior with high-quality materials, state-of-the art technology and enough exterior and interior color and material choices to fit any customer. David Bailey, Senior Engineering Manager for SRT Motorsports, knows the new Dodge Dart rally car is equipped to handle the intense racing conditions.

"The sport is extremely exciting and the on-track action can be brutal on the drivers and the cars," said Bailey. "The cars are jumping higher than ever and landing safely. The Dart rally car is lightweight with a very powerful motor. The zero to 60 mile per hour times are incredible, as low as 1.9 seconds, so with Travis behind the wheel, we can't wait for the season opener."

Global RallyCross is a spin-off of the X Games rally races. It combines the skill of rally racing with the excitement of X Games. The revolutionary motorsports series enters its second season and features high-flying extreme competition between cars that are relevant to today's youth. The series consists of seven racing events in closed-course rally tracks and incorporates bumper-to-bumper competition among 600 horsepower all-wheel drive vehicles. There are 70-foot jumps over racing traffic, creating a "motocross with cars" action.

The series begins May 26 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and concludes September 29 in Las Vegas. Also included are races at X Games scheduled for June 30-July 1 in Los Angeles. It's one of the most anticipated stops on the schedule. The ESPN family of channels will broadcast live coverage of the entire 2012 race series.

Travis Pastrana drives Dodge Dart to Global RallyCross win

LOUDON, N.H. (Saturday, July 14, 2012) – Travis Pastrana erased the disappointment of the first three races of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship season with an impressive victory in Saturday night’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Pastrana drove his Red Bull/Discount Tire Dodge Dart to a 1.431-second win over Samuel Hubinette.

“It’s been so long, I almost forgot what it’s like to win,” said Pastrana. “It is absolutely awesome to get out here and get on top. It has been a rough season.”

The low point for the team came at the 12th X Games in Los Angeles. Hopes of a medal were crushed when Pastrana was taken out on the first turn of the first lap. “We’ve had such a hard run,” he said. “Everyone on this Dodge Dart team has worked so hard. We've just been creamed and crushed every race. I have to thank everybody that has supported me. It’s been a really rough year.”

The challenging circuit involved more elements and obstacles than previous events at Charlotte and Texas. Drivers had to deal with a chicane, moguls, dirt, a tabletop jump, a 180-degree hairpin turn and a 70-foot gap jump. The race also involved a Joker Lap (turn) – each driver was required to take a longer route at least once during the Heat Race and Main Event.

Pastrana qualified third fastest and won his heat race which gave him a prime starting spot in the Main Event.

“It really comes down to qualifying and we were able to qualify third which put us up front for the Heat Race,” he said. “We qualified second at X Games and should have had a smooth run like this but we had help in the first turn (hit from behind and pushed into the retaining wall).

“This is a brand new car. Dodge put so much behind this. Guys from every different branch of Dodge were coming out. The motor has been strong the whole time. It’s just a matter of getting everything else in place. I want to thank everyone for backing me. I know it’s only our fourth race in this brand-new car which actually, if you think about it, it’s amazing to be on top of the podium. But for us, we had a lot of expectations coming into this season and we wanted to win. X Games was such a letdown, this was a good way to bring it back.”

Getting out front was the key. Pastrana was able to do that in the Heat Race and Main Event. He and Hubinette had a torrid battle in their Heat Race and it continued in the Main Event. After overtaking Tanner Foust at the tricky hairpin turn on the first lap, it was vintage Pastrana maneuvering the Dodge Dart through the various obstacles in the finale.

“This Dodge Dart is an awesome car,” said Pastrana. “These guys (crew) gave me what it took to win. I just want to thank each and every one of those guys standing back there (in Victory Lane) with the big smiles. Thank you guys for believing in me and thanks to all the fans that kept backing me because I tell you what, it’s been tough.”

Brian Deegan finished third with Foust and Ken Block rounding out the top five.

How big was the victory? “It’s bigger than you could ever imagine,” said Pastrana. “I feel like we had the best car, we have a great crew and we finally showed where this Dodge Dart should be – Victory Lane.”
