Caliber can turn even the everyday driver into a gear-head with responsive and smooth power.
The 2.0L four-cylinder World Engine has dual overhead cams and 16 valves. It is paired with transaxles that deliver an excellent balance of performance and economy.
OUTSTANDING FUEL ECONOMY
The 2.0L four-cylinder engine provides impressive fuel economy ratings of 24 city / 32 hwy mpg+ with the five-speed manual transaxle.

- TRANSAXLES
The available Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT2) continually adjusts gear ratios in response to acceleration and torque requirements. It eliminates the step-shifts found on a conventional transaxle and delivers smooth, immediate response.
The CVT2 uses a system of belts and pulleys instead of gears, providing the optimum gear ratio at all times and in all conditions, delivering optimal fuel efficiency+,+ due to operating at peak effectiveness.
The available AutoStick feature allows the driver to manually shift through the available six programmed in speeds or just leave the shifter in Drive and let the CVT2 automatic handle transmission operation. AutoStick adds an element of driver control when it is desired.
A five-speed manual transaxle is standard. It provides closely spaced gear ratios, which help improve acceleration at low speeds.

- VARIABLE VALVE TIMING

The 2.0L engine features state-of-the-art variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust valves to improve fuel economy, and refinement, and maximize performance.
Variable valve timing improves fuel economy two ways:
- It reduces the engines pumping energy requirements by closing the intake valve later
- It allows the engine to recycle energy to push the crank instead of rejecting it as heat
Variable valve timing improves engine breathing, which improves efficiency and power.
