Both are designed to deliver power with efficiency, with the four-cylinder engine providing up to 31 mpg hwy+ and the Available V6 delivering 29 mpg hwy+.
- 2.4L Four-Cylinder Engine
- 3.6L Pentastar® V6 Engine
The 2.4L four-cylinder world engine provides peak power, torque and generous gas mileage+ with smooth idle and good low-speed operation.
The 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine provides exceptional performance. Using computer-aided engineering techniques on the structure, intake and exhaust systems resulted in an extremely refined engine.
DUAL VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (VVT)
The 2.4L four-cylinder engine and available 3.6L Pentastar V6 both feature state-of-the-art dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT).
- By closing the intake valve later, the engine can recycle energy instead of rejecting it as heat
- VVT improves engine breathing, which improves fuel efficiency+ + + and refinement, and delivers optimum performance
TRANSMISSIONS
Dodge Avenger features two available transmissions:
- AutoStick six-speed transmission – standard on all models with the 3.6L V6 engine and standard on Avenger SXT with the 2.4L engine
Four-speed automatic transmission – standard on Avenger SE with the 2.4L engine

Dual variable valve timing helps the 2.4L four-cylinder world engine deliver optimum performance also, while delivering fuel economy ratings of 20 city / 31 hwy mpg+.
- AUTOSTICK SIX -SPEED TRANSMISSION
The AutoStick six-speed transmission is standard with the 3.6L Pentastar V6 or available with the 2.4L four-cylinder engine.
The automatic is equipped with a low first gear, designed to make quick take-offs from a stop. It uses variable line pressure to help increase gas mileage and enhance reliability.
