2008| 2009 Challenger
  • Drive System

Top-notch performance is the name of the game. Rear-wheel drive helps to ensure that Challenger corners like it's on rails and brings you the true pony car capability you crave. And the revered Sure Grip Differential incorporates a torque response unit and two-pinion speed sensing gears to help control slip between the rear wheels and provide better overall traction.

Sure Grips are offered on the R/T and SRT8® at the following ratios:

R/T 3.73 with 18" wheels and the six-speed manual transmission. 3.91 with the manual transmission and 20" wheels.

    SRT8® 3.06 with AutoStick® transmissions. 3.91 with manual transmissions.

    Drive System
    • Closed course professional driver. Do not attempt. 2008 model shown.
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

During extreme steering maneuvers the standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system[1] helps maintain control by sensing when the vehicle is starting to over - or understeer. The system automatically applies individual brakes or controls the throttle to help you stay safely on course. When you don't want the extra hand, ESP is specially tuned for performance handling so you can switch it off.

Standard on R/T and SRT8®. Optional on SE.

    Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Braking

Screeching halt or steady slow-down — and anything in between — Challenger's standard four-wheel disc brakes are just the ticket. Plus, the available antilock braking system with brake assist helps you maintain steering control of the vehicle and helps provide shorter braking distances in emergency braking situations (standard on R/T and SRT8,® packaged in Popular Equipment Package on SE).

SRT8® braking creates a performance trifecta along with acceleration and speed. Low-drag, aluminum Brembo® calipers facilitate maximum pedal feel and responsiveness, while Knock Back Mitigation detects G-forces and responds by improving brake pedal travel during spirited driving. All the while, air ducts in the front fascia help keep the system cooled. And with standard Brembo® 360x32 mm vented rotors in the front and 350x28 mm in the rear, your payoff is benchmark braking performance.

  • Suspension

Love it on the track, love it on the town, and love it on your daily drive. With short and long arm suspension in the front and multilink independent suspension in the rear, along with increased shock damping, spring rates, steering responsiveness and lower aspect ratios, Challenger delivers optimal handling without compromising ride comfort.

With either the R/T or the SRT® package, you can keep the comfort - and get enthusiast-level, performance-tuned suspension (available with R/T manuals and all SRT8® models) that's track-ready to help orchestrate the ride of your life. Bottom line is, are you ready?

  • Tires

Challenger puts its best foot forward with a powerful lineup of wheels and tires. Lending to Challenger's commanding stance, these dancing shoes grab hold of the pavement and flex some serious muscle.

Challenger SE is outfitted with standard 17-inch machined-face aluminum wheels, along with standard Goodyear Integrity® touring tires. Or, you can choose optional 18-inch cast-aluminum machined wheels with Continental ContiProContact™ touring tires to hit the ground running.

A genuine force to be reckoned with, Challenger R/T comes standard with 18-inch cast aluminum machined wheels with sport-tuned Michelin® MXM4® tires. Optional for this beauty are 20-inch chrome-clad cast-aluminum wheels with either sport-tuned Goodyear Eagle RS-A® tires (included with R/T five-speed AutoStick®) or Goodyear Eagle RS-A®/SRT® performance tires (included with six-speed manual transmission).

And in true high-performance fashion, Challenger SRT8® represents with 20-inch fully-forged aluminum wheels shod with standard four-season Goodyear Eagle RS-A®/SRT® tires. The unique asymmetrical treads lend an enhanced grip as well as all-season performance and traction. Or take it to the next level with optional Goodyear Eagle® F1 three-season tires, also with asymmetrical tread. You get a lighter and stronger tire with a sizeable 245/45/20 in the front and 255/45/20 in the rear.
