• Braking & Control

The Dodge Sprinter's standard-fit adaptive Electronic Stability Program[1] (ESP) incorporates steering angle and wheel speed to calculate the direction in which the driver wishes to steer, then uses signals from the yaw-rate and lateral-acceleration sensor to determine if the vehicle is on the right course. By braking each wheel as necessary, the system helps guide the vehicle in the desired direction, taking into account the vehicle’s payload.

Additional braking assistance comes from the Antilock Brake System (ABS), which helps prevent skidding when the brakes are applied urgently. Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR, or traction control) improves stability when starting or accelerating on slippery surfaces. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) applies brake forces properly, and ABS decreases stopping distances in emergency braking situations by detecting the speed at which the driver applies the brakes.

  • Stability Enhancement

Shifting loads can cause loss of control and may increase the risk of a rollover crash. To help prevent this, Dodge Sprinter is outfitted with Load-Adaptive Control (LAC), an adaptive algorithm that automatically calculates vehicle mass and center of gravity to improve braking. Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) helps improve handling on corners that become progressively sharper, such as motorway exits, detecting critical lateral accelerations, reducing engine torque and applying controlled braking pressure to the relevant wheels.

  • Air Bag Protection

Inside the 2008 Dodge Sprinter, the restraint systems — seatbelts and air bags — work together to deliver a coordinated response and effective occupant protection. Standard front air bags[2] with available supplemental side curtain air bags[2] and the available thorax air bag[2] reduce the risk of injuries in the event of a frontal collision. Seat belts are standard on all seats.

As an added security feature, after an accident in which the air bags[2] deploy, the vehicle’s emergency unlocking function is triggered and the front windows open automatically to ventilate the interior.

    • Always sit properly in the seat with the seat belt fastened
  • Light/Rain Sensor

The 2008 Dodge Sprinter panoramic windshield features an optional heating system, plus an optional light / rain sensor that continuously varies the intermittent windshield wiper setting based on rain intensity and automatically illuminates the vehicle’s lights in low-light conditions.

  • HID Lighting

Standard bright halogen headlamps light the road ahead. An automatic adjustment alters the light beam according to vehicle load for enhanced safety. High-Intensity Discharge (HID bi-xenon) headlamps with an optional headlamp cleaning system are also available.

  • Corner Lighting

To better illuminate the road when cornering, a bulb within the Dodge Sprinter HID headlamp is automatically activated when negotiating tight corners[3] at speeds up to 43 mph.

  • Folding Mirrors

Manual folding exterior mirrors contain standard side turn signal indicator repeaters, an upper main mirror, and an integral smaller wide-angle mirror. Heated power-adjustable side mirrors are also available.

  • ParkSense® Rear Park Assist System

The ParkSense® rear park assist system[4] uses sound waves to detect nearby obstacles in and near the rear path of the vehicle to help you maneuver in tight spaces at parking speeds. Audio-visual indicators in the overhead display in the rear of the vehicle alert you to the proximity of most larger, stationary objects that might be outside your line of sight.
