Overview
It's a legend among diesels, tough-as-nails, and willing to work overtime. The renowned 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel now comes standard on Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks (available on 3500). This durable engine reliably churns out a mighty 305 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. And it comes standard with a class-exclusive, factory-installed exhaust brake (available on 3500). For 4500 and 5500 models, you also get an unsurpassed 5-year / 100,000-mile limited engine warranty,[1] and an available AISIN six-speed automatic transmission with warranty.[2]
Massive Power And Torque
The new 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine features incredible amounts of torque across the widest engine speed range — 305 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque — for better launch, towing, and acceleration and improved drivability with fewer shifts and smoother transmission operation.
Notably, the new engine also provides exceptional low-end torque, reduced exhaust emissions, improved cold starting, improved durability, standard factory integrated diesel exhaust brake, and advanced electrical features for the commercial market.
Variable-Geometry Turbocharger
The Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) features a unique patented one-piece sliding nozzle that moves continuously to vary the power of the turbine and the amount of air delivered to the engine. Because of the Cummins® unique design, it has proven to be the most reliable Variable Geometry Turbocharger in the world. What does this mean for you? Increased performance and improved fuel economy.
Integrated Exhaust Brake
The class-exclusive, factory-installed integrated exhaust brake — standard on 2008 Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine — provides better driving control, reduced brake fade and longer brake life, as well as stopping safety and confidence when hauling heavy loads on downhill grades. Also available for 3500 Chassis Cab trucks equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine.
Clean-Diesel Technology
Dodge is determined to keep our planet clean, and with leading advances in diesel technology, we've reduced the amount of harmful emissions from our engines by 90 percent in the past decade. As a matter of fact, the Cummins® engine is the only diesel that meets EPA emission standards to date.
How do we do it? Dodge Ram Chassis Cab trucks use a closed-case system, which reroutes crankcase ventilation gases from the breather tube back into the engine intake airflow for combustion, instead of releasing them into the atmosphere. In addition, the new 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel uses an oxidation catalyst in combination with managed engine combustion, increasing or decreasing exhaust temperature to manage a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This allows regeneration to take place under low-ambient / low-load conditions when exhaust temperatures are low, as well as during normal operation.
Best-In-Class Turbodiesel Displacement
2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Chassis Cab trucks have the largest available Turbo Diesel engine in its class[3] — the new 6.7-liter Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine with 305 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque. It's just another way Dodge Ram Chassis Cab trucks power over the competition. This engine comes standard with Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cabs, available for 3500 Chassis Cab.
